If you see someone "proudly" boasting about waiting out a troll, that should be a pretty big red flag that they're no better and would likely be the one stalling you out if the situation were reversed.

If you see someone who only plays "no synchro/xyz/pend/link" ect. they are not looking for a "fun casual game" they're looking to play bad stun and burn strats by eliminating the most accessible outs, instead of building around them.

^to add to this, people looking to play "casual" or "fun" dont actually want fun back and forth, they want a captive audience while they show off an inconsistent and boring combo. Easiest way to prove this is ask what "casual" means you'll get 1 of 3 answers:
"No Omni megats hand traps meta" = playing jank combo.
"Rogue or below" typically doesn't actually know what tier the deck they or their opponent are playing
If they ignore the question or call you a try hard for asking, or generally dodge the question they likely don't have an answer these players likely play either an anime characters deck or stun/burn

"fun decks" doesn't mean "fun" for everyone, just for the host.

No,yugioh at it's most competitive level is playing the least amount of yugioh possible that is how it's always been. The only change is the skill ceiling was lowered to make competitive play more accessible which means you are getting more of that mentality seeping into lower levels of play.

So even back in Yugi/Kaiba, you should just have all the removal, never mind the bad vanillas.

I still play Yugi/Kaiba from time to time. Yes, you should run 3 x every removal card, no vanillas under 1700 ATK, and no tributes except 1 x Summoned Skull (for combo with Change of Heart). If your opponent has a monster(s) on the board when you end your turn, it means you're losing.

Everything else in this thread is on point. People who exclude certain cards/decks (when not testing) or who only play "fun" games are almost always scrubs. Otherwise, they'd just play a different format where those strategies don't dominate.
