Should Replays Show Both Players' Hands?
XtevensChannel

Is this a good idea or a bad idea? Can it be abused? Should this only be allowed in certain situations?

It doesn't sound like a bad idea but I hate the idea of someone going over the replay and seeing what their opponent could have done (Whether it was a mistake on the opponent's end or not) and being rude to them in private messages or calling them out on the main menu
But if someone were to do that, that would be on them

Lets just see where it goes

In a match you should only be able to see the replay once the match is over. You should also be able to check their deck (unless that can be abused some way)

I wouldn't mind being able to see what my opponent had, then I could figure out what I could have done to not lose the duel or what cards I should add into my deck to get a better chance of playing over my opponent's responses.

I don't agree with Coughy when it comes to viewing their deck since it was made by the other player
I don't think some people would like it if some people were to copy their list without their permission

But it's Yugioh. Most competitive builds are going to look almost identical regardless. It doesn't matter if they don't want others to copy their list, their list probably isn't even theirs in the first place.

I like to look at it from someone else's perspective
Plus, you can look up a decklist on google anyway, but we are just talking about whether replays should show their opponent's hand or not
I know we may not agree with each other but, we will just see what Xteven wants to do and leave it at that

well as said competitive players run the same deck of everyone so " netdeck " isnt even an issue since you can find the deck on google in the first place. i think it would be useful to see in specific situations if it was a good idea to do a certain play or another so this feature will most likely be useful to get better at the game

Dope why not

do it and see how it goes. if it has problems which i doubt it will just remove it

This will prevent people from Cheating or at least they can be punished afterwards if they do illegal plays with this whole new "verification rule", so I like it.

I'm wondering if it should only show both hands if it's a rated game, or if there should be a similar restriction.

It would be a good thing for a couple of reasons:

- It would help those who are competitive or want to improve their game to see if they made the correct play or could've done something different.
- It could help deter people who try to cheat.

It might be minimal in the latter but so far with the recent solo mode DB is upping its game.

What we have now is that replays that would normally show one hand now show both hands. Replays that didn't show either hand still show neither hand.

We really need a way to turn off this new feature if we want to. When I review a game I want to watch it as it actually happened so I can analyze the situation as realistically as possible. Having perfect knowledge of the opponents cards is counter productive to learning via review. My goal is to get better at the game and the game is not played with info revealed.

Quite frankly it's also more entertaining and less distracting not to see all of the opponent's cards. Showing the hand removes all the drama and the suspense that make yugioh great.

I actually think the opponent's hand should be hidden by default but all I really need is a button so I can go back to hiding it. I really liked the old replays. Thanks.

I would love for there be a toggle for those who don't want to see, it would eliminate the need for a "yes or no" option.

what Jazz said, ideally we'd have a toggle on/off for hand reveals

As others have said, please at least provide a toggle button to reveal / hide opponent's hand.

The best solution is a toggle to reveal the hand, and have it hidden by default. Since having the hand hidden or revealed can both be useful in certain scenarios, but once you've seen it you can't un-see it. I can't think of a single reason why a toggle wouldn't be superior to the hand always being revealed.

If that's not possible I'd prefer the old system of the hand being hidden.

I would say not by default, but I would support a toggle to show hands. To satisfy people that would rather not have hands revealed, the "show hands" feature should be off by default.

I can understand the interest in stopping potential cheating or illegal plays, or to test a play you msde by finding out whether the opponent was bluffing and so on.

I have no issue with the current replay rules, so I feel that a toggle for showing both players' hands is the best compromise.

The "no" voters can leave it turned off while "yes" voters can use the resource if they choose.

As others have said, having knowledge of your opponents cards makes it impossible to review and recreate the game as it was played to see where you went wrong and to improve for the future.

Learning to anticipate your opponent’s moves is a pivotal part of being skilled at this game and having knowledge of what cards your opponent has does not help improve that skill.

Default showing is ok because you could always click the button to hide it during rock paper scissors

While I do get your angle, I think we could use some thoughts about newer players, who want a more casual-esque scene, and this would put their fears of cheating to rest, and help them to get better if they apply themselves, and for those reasons I support having it show.
[/quote:3uxqcoxm]

I agree, I get that this is something casuals and maybe current format players will like. I don't want to kill the new feature just make it a toggle on/off. Hell I will use it myself too but probably not until the end of the game to check my reads
