After 10 years I want back into the game!

Post #1 by KaiserSenpai420 » Wed Sep 02, 2020 8:13 pm

Salutations everyone! Kenni ( or you can call me KaiserSenpai ) here! It's a pleasure to be apart of this community! :D

Long time fan here, been in love with YGO since I was a little girl ( 7 or 8 years old to be exact ).
I only know OG YGO and GX, just bought Legacy so I'm hoping the story mode will help me learn about synchro summoning, llinks summoning something about pendulum cards/summoning?

Any advice you guys wanna throw at me? I did watch a few videos about the new system but that's different from a hands on approach, nonetheless I'll take any advice you can give me!

Thank you my fellow duelists.

Welcome to Adamancipator/Eldlich format, featuring cards with much more text than most of the old cards

Welcome back!

Now, I don't know how well the story mode will teach you the new stuff or even how recent the cards are in Legacy of the Duelist, but you will soon find out that the zones you choose for your monsters and spells or traps matter. Whether it is due to the link arrows of Link Monsters or to cards like Infinite Impermanence or Magical Musketeer cards, you will find way more interactions regarding where you place cards than basically any time before that.

Another tip I can provide, and it's a good thing you remember watching GX, is that good decks nowadays are almost all centred around an archetype that gives them consistency and interactivity with their cards. Still, while archetypes already are a great way to assure your deck will provide you different plays for most scenarios, when deckbuilding it's highly recommended to consider for any card you add to your deck both how well it synergizes with the rest and how useful it is against a majority of decks.

For that last part, you will be wanting to play lots of matches. Play with decks you like, play against those you don't like, find similarities between archetypes, rather than memorising every card (Elemental HERO Stratos, for example, is the most known card to search another upon summon, which is common for many archetypes). At the same time, discover common disruptions for your decks and you'll often find ways to get around them, as well as understand how your opponent can and probably will do for theirs.

Anyway, I think those are the most generic tips I can provide until you find the decks you like best. For now, you should remain open-minded for the various ways the game tried to evolve in the course of 4 generations since you've stopped following it. It sure will be a long process, but with enough determination you will be able to get the gist of everything and still have fun. Good luck.

I saw the strategy I need!
