Deck Spotlight: Perry The Platypus

Post #1 by UberTrainerMinusInfinity » Wed Oct 26, 2022 8:47 am

PERRY THE PLATYPUS
https://www.duelingbook.com/deck?id=11349386
Year of Origin: 2007
Is it real?: Yes, as part of Phineas and Ferb.
Ace Monster: Perry The Platypus
The Main Races: Aqua
The Main Attributes: DARK
Extra Monsters: None
Attack: 4/5
Defence: 4/5
Strategy: 5/5
Intellect: 3/5
Luck: 4/5
THE STORY:
Dr. Doofenshmirtz wants to take over the entire Tri-State Area! Unfortunately for him, Agent P, AKA Perry The Platypus, is always here to foil his schemes and inators, even if he's the pet of Phineas and Ferb.
STRATEGY:
Even in Yu-Gi-Oh, Perry and Dr. Doofenshmirtz still clash, being completely oblivious to the duel! Bring out Perry from your hand by discarding a Trap, and Dr. Doofenshmirtz will be summoned to your opponent's field in Attack Position.
Dr. Doofenshmirtz can't be destroyed by battle with Aqua monsters, he cannot be tributed, banished, or used as material, and he protects Perry The Platypus from being destroyed by card effects, meaning the only true way to get rid of Perry The Platypus is to negate his effects first or banish him, as Dr. Doofenshmirtz's own effects can't be negated.. He also stops enemy monsters from attacking, and absorbs their power to gain ATK equal to their combined ATK to attack Perry, who also can't be destroyed by Aqua monsters.....during his controller's turn only.
During your turn, Dr. Doofenshmirtz's attack is 0, which means Perry The Platypus can deal a guaranteed 2000 damage that can't be stopped by non-Inator effects should his attack on Doofenshmirtz succeed, and should his ATK not be lowered.
Alter the tide of battle with Doofenshmirtz's inators! They can weaken Dr. Doofenshmirtz for a counterattack, wipe all non-Aqua monsters from the field, and even replicate the Night of the Living Pharmacists with the LOTS OF ME Token! In an emergency, they can be Special Summoned from the GY as an Effect monster by discarding 1 card, but only if you control Perry The Platypus.
And to top it all off, if Perry The Platypus is sent from the field to the GY, he automatically revives himself at your next turn if Dr. Doofenshmirtz is out!
KILLER COMBOS:
There's nothing more homely than Dr. Doofenshmirtz's laboratory...1....2...3....DOOFENSHMIRTZ EVIL INCORPORATED!!! This Field Spell can search out Monogram's Message, which in turn can search out Perry The Platypus, make his ATK 2500, and can recycle Inators!
Of all the Inators, Freezinator can disrupt your opponent the most. It can ruin type strategies by turning all monsters into Aqua monsters, and if Dr. Doofenshmirtz is out on the field, it stops your opponent from Special Summoning for the rest of this phase! It can also serve as an emergency wall in it's monster form, protecting Perry The Platypus from being attacked.

Dr. Doofenshmirtz's effect should be shortened from:
If you control a face-up ''Perry The Platypus'', you can Special Summon this from your hand to your opponent's side of the field in Attack Position.. You can only control 1 ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz''. This card's effects cannot be negated. Cannot be destroyed by battle with an Aqua monster. Your other monsters cannot attack. This cannot change it's Battle Position. Cannot be tributed, banished, or used as material. During your turn, this gains ATK equal to the combined ATK of all other monsters you control. If this is attacked by ''Perry The Platypus'', cards those card text does'nt mention ''Perry The Platypus'' or ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'' cannot be activated until the end of the damage step.
to:
You can only control 1 "Dr. Doofenshmirtz". Gains ATK equal to the total original ATK of all other monsters you control during your turn. Cannot be destroyed by battle with an Aqua monster. Your other monsters cannot attack. This card's battle position cannot be changed except with an effect. Cannot be Tributed or used as Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Material. If you control "Perry The Platypus" and have no cards in your Extra Deck, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand) to your opponent's field in Attack Position.

Some of the protection needs to be toned down so it isn't excessive. Also, I think the "can only control 1" thing should be the first thing in the effect since that seems to be the most important.

Perry The Platypus's effect should be shortened from:
Loses 1000 ATK unless your opponent controls an Aqua monster. You can only control 1 ''Perry The Platypus''. You can discard 1 Trap card: Special Summon this from your hand, then you can Special Summon 1 ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'' from your hand/deck/GY to your opponent's side of the field in Attack Position. Cannot be destroyed by battle with an Aqua monster. Cannot be destroyed by card effects while your opponent controls a face-up ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz''. At the start of your turn, if this is in your GY and it was sent there because it was destroyed or sent to the GY by a card effect, and your opponent controls a face-up ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'': You can Special Summon this from your GY.
to:
You can only control 1 "Perry The Platypus". Cannot be destroyed (except by the following effect) while your opponent controls an Aqua monster. At the start of the Damage Step, if this card battles a face-up non-Aqua monster: Destroy this card. You can discard 1 Trap; Special Summon this card from your hand to your field and 1 "Dr. Doofenshmirtz" from your hand/Deck/GY to your opponent's, both in Attack Position. During your Standby Phase, if this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon it. "Dr. Doofenshmirtz" must be on the field to activate and resolve this effect.

Special summoning both this and the Dr. guy should be mandatory, not optional, and the protection effect can apply simply while the opponent controls any Aqua monster.

Backstory's effect should be buffed from:
Set 1 Spell/Trap card those card text mentions either ''Perry The Platypus'' or ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'' from your hand/deck, except this card, also you can activate it the turn it was set. Then, if this was activated during the Battle Phase, and you control an Aqua monster with 2000 or more ATK: Switch all non-Aqua monsters on the field into face-down Defence Position.
to:
If you have no cards in your Extra Deck: Set 1 Spell/Trap (except "Backstory") that lists "Perry The Platypus" from your hand/Deck, and if it is a Trap or Quick-Play Spell, it can be activated this turn, otherwise you can shuffle any number of cards from your field and/or GY into the Deck, except that Set card, and if you do, you can change all non-Aqua monsters on the field to face-down Defense Position.

Since all this archetype's spells/traps list Perry The Platypus, it isn't necessary to also require the searched spell/trap by this effect to also list the the Dr.'s name.

CURSE YOU, PERRY THE PLATYPUS!!!'s effect should be shortened from:
Activate when a ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'' leaves the field, while you control an Aqua monster. Inflict 1000 damage to your opponent for each card you control, then destroy all cards on the field, except Aqua monsters. For the rest of this duel, while your opponent controls no Aqua monsters, they take no damage except from ''Perry The Platypus''.
to:
If you have no cards in your Extra Deck and a face-up Aqua monster left the field this turn: Destroy all cards on the field, except Aqua monsters.

The part that inflicts damage seems unnecessary since that should be the monsters' role.

Doofenshmritz Evil Incorporated should be deleted since the archetype seems to already have enough searchers, and so the deck can have more room for staple cards.

Monogram's Message's effect should be buffed from:
If you control no monsters: add 1 ''Perry The Platypus'' from your deck to your hand, then you may target 1 Trap card, or 1 face-down Spell/Trap card on the field: if it is a Trap, this turn, when you discard a card to activate the effect of ''Perry The Platypus'', you can send that card to the GY in place of discarding a card. (If the target is set, reveal it) If you control a monster: draw 1 card.
to:
When you activate this card, you can also target 1 Spell/Trap on the field; add 1 "Perry The Platypus" from your Deck or GY to your hand, and if you do, destroy that target (if any), and if you do that, you can shuffle any number of cards from your field and/or GY into the Deck, except the destroyed card, then draw 2 cards. You cannot activate Spell Cards the turn you activate this card, except Spells that list "Perry The Platypus".

Obvious Disguise's effect should be buffed from:
Your Trap cards those card text mentions ''Perry The Platypus'' or ''Dr. Doofenshmritz'' cannot be negated this turn. All face-up ''Perry The Platypus'' cannot be targeted by card effects this turn, except for ones those card text mentions ''Perry The Platypus''. Then, you may discard 1 card: Special Summon 1 ''Perry The Platypus'' from your deck, but if you do, it can only attack Aqua monsters this turn. When you Special Summon ''Perry The Platypus''; (Quick Effect) You may add this from your GY to your hand.
to:
When you activate this card, you can also discard 1 card; apply 1 of these effects, or you can apply both simultaneously if you discarded the card.
● Special Summon 1 "Perry The Platypus" from your hand/Deck/GY in Attack Position, and if you do, you can shuffle any number of cards from your field and/or GY into the Deck, except that monster.
● This turn, the activation and effects of cards activated on your field cannot be negated.
You cannot activate Spell Cards the turn you activate this card, except Spells that list "Perry The Platypus".

Secret Entrance feels like a strictly better Infinite Impermanence and I think it should be deleted.

Fireworkinator's should be changed to a continuous trap and have its effect shortened from:
When your opponent declares an attack: destroy all non-Aqua monsters on the field. If your opponent controls a face-up ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'': negate the effects of all non-Aqua monsters on the field first. If you control a face-up ''Perry The Platypus'', and if you control no level 5 or higher monsters, you can discard 1 card: Special Summon this from your GY as an Effect monster. (Level 5/DARK/Aqua/1500ATK/0DEF/EFFECT: All face-up ''Perry The Platypus'' cannot be destroyed by the effects of Trap cards.) (This is still a Trap card)
to:
When you activate this card, you can also discard 1 card; Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Aqua/WATER/Level 5/ATK 0/DEF 0) (this card is also still a Trap), and if you discarded the card, you can negate the effects of as many non-Aqua monsters currently on the field (until the end of this turn) as possible, and if you do, your cards cannot be destroyed by effects (except the effect of "Perry The Platypus") this turn.

Freezanator's should also be change to a continuous trap and have its effect shortened from:
All monsters on the field become Aqua monsters until the end of this turn. Then, if your opponent controls a face-up ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'': Your opponent cannot Special Summon for the rest of this Phase. If you control a face-up ''Perry The Platypus'', and if you control no level 5 or higher monsters, you can discard 1 card: Special Summon this from your GY as an Effect monster. (Level 5/DARK/Aqua/1500ATK/0DEF/EFFECT: All face-up ''Perry The Platypus'' cannot be attacked.'') (This is still a Trap card)
to:
When you activate this card, you can also discard 1 card; Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Aqua/WATER/Level 5/ATK 0/DEF 0) (this card is also still a Trap), and if you discarded the card, your opponent cannot Special Summon for the rest of this phase nor attack for the rest of this turn. You cannot activate Spell Cards the turn you activate this card, except Spells that list "Perry The Platypus".

Same with Leakyfaucetinator. That card should be changed to continuous and have its effect shortened from:
All Aqua monsters cannot be destroyed by card effects this turn. Then, if your opponent controls a face-up ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'', you can target up to 3 Spell/Trap cards your opponent controls: destroy them. If you control a face-up ''Perry The Platypus'', and if you control no level 5 or higher monsters, you can discard 1 card: Special Summon this from your GY as an Effect monster. (Level 5/DARK/Aqua/1500ATK/0DEF/EFFECT: All face-up ''Perry The Platypus'' cannot be destroyed by the effects of Spell cards.) (This is still a Trap card)
to:
When you activate this card, you can also discard 1 card; Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Aqua/WATER/Level 5/ATK 0/DEF 0) (this card is also still a Trap), and if you discarded the card, you can destroy 1 face-up card your opponent controls, or up to 2 if "Perry The Platypus" is on your field or GY.

Same with Rotinator. That card should be changed to continuous and have its effect shortened from:
Special Summon a ''LOTS OF ME Token''. (Level 3/DARK/Aqua/1000ATK/1000DEF/EFFECT: This is also a Zombie monster. Cannot be used as material or be tributed. If this attacks a non-Aqua monster: send that non-Aqua monster to the GY without applying damage calculation, then Special Summon a ''LOTS OF ME Token'' to it's controller's side, also all Aqua monsters you control lose 1 level.) Then, if your opponent controls a face-up ''Dr. Doofenshmirtz'': You can have that ''LOTS OF ME Token'' attack an appropriate target. If you control a face-up ''Perry The Platypus'', and if you control no level 5 or higher monsters, you can discard 1 card: Special Summon this from your GY as an Effect monster. (Level 5/DARK/Aqua/1500ATK/0DEF/EFFECT: All face-up ''Perry The Platypus'' cannot be destroyed by battle, also they are unaffected by the effects of ''LOTS OF ME Token''.) (This is still a Trap card)
to:
When you activate this card, you can also discard 1 card; Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster (Aqua/WATER/Level 5/ATK 0/DEF 0) (this card is also still a Trap), and if you discarded the card, you can double the ATK of 1 non-battling Effect Monster on the field until the end of the next turn, or you can triple that monster's ATK until the end of the next turn if "Perry The Platypus" is on your field or GY.

Keep in mind that, with this change, this card, I believe, would not be able to activate in the damage step since it has to be guaranteed to modify ATK in order to work that way, which would explain why Cyber Energy Shock can't be activated in the damage step as that card isn't guaranteed to modify ATK and instead only gives a chance/option to.

Repulsinator should be deleted since I have no idea what it's supposed to do for this archetype with its random token-producing.

Christen57's changes are now live on Dueling Book! He is jolly good, but I think he took the emergency part of the Inators and turned them into the main swing! While Perry The Platypus and Dr. Doofenshmirtz are mostly unchanged, (Surprisingly!) the Inators have been remade into simple meatshields that only get their effects when they discard a card, and some of the cards have been gutted: What's a Fireworkinator that can't destroy monsters anymore, or a CURSE YOU, PERRY THE PLATYPUS that's no longer capable of ending the game by itself? (As it no longer inflicts any damage at all, just a premium removal for all Aqua decks)
Also, it feels just wrong to have a Perry The Platypus VS. Doofenshmirtz deck without the thematic Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, so I gave it my own buff, but the other two removed cards are history, and thus Danville is saved from the Night Of The Living Pharmacists!
Thank you for the changes, though, and keep up the good work! (If you're ready, try doing this to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Talking Tom next!)

Okay, I found out that Rotinator definitely cannot be activated in the damage step now since it needs to be guaranteed to modify ATK/DEF when it resolves and not just give a chance/option to, so where I suggested this change:
1 non-battling Effect Monster on the field until the end of the next turn, or you can triple that monster's ATK until the end of the next turn if
that part can be shortened further to:
1 Effect Monster on the field until the end of the next turn, or you can triple that Effect Monster's ATK until then if

Also, I realize that that that 1 comma in CURSE YOU, PERRY THE PLATYPUS!!!'s effect can/should be removed so it reads:
If you have no cards in your Extra Deck and a face-up Aqua monster left the field this turn: Destroy all cards on the field except Aqua monsters. If a "Perry The Platypus" you control would be destroyed, you can place this card from your GY on the top or bottom of the Deck instead.

To answer your question regarding Fireworkinator, the reason I felt it shouldn't include destruction in its effect was because that role was already given to Leakyfaucetinator, and I thought it would be more appropriate for each of the traps in this archetype to have different roles, so Leakyfaucetinator is the card that destroys, Fireworkinator is the card that negates, Freezanator is the card that temporarily shuts down special summoning and attacking, and Rotinator is the card that boosts ATK to help this archetype beat over high ATK monsters.

Also, the reason I wanted that minor nerf to "CURSE YOU, PERRY THE PLATYPUS!!!" so it no longer inflicts damage is because I already considered it powerful being both a Heavy Storm and a Dark Hole packed into 1 card, so being able to inflict damage on top of all that felt like overkill.

If you want to insist on keeping the field spell in the archetype, then I suggest shortening its effect from:
When this is activated: You can set 1 ''Monogram's Message'' from your deck, then you can place a Scheme Counter on this card. (Max: 2). Whenever an Aqua monster you control attacks, place a Scheme Counter on this card. (Max: 2) All Level 4 or lower Aqua monsters gain 300 ATK for each Scheme Counter on this card. If a Spell/Trap those card text mentions ''Perry The Platypus'' activates an effect that requires discarding a card, it's controller can remove 2 Scheme Counters from this card instead.
to:
If this card is activated and you have no cards in your Extra Deck: You can Set 1 "Monogram's Message" from your Deck/GY, and if you do, you can shuffle any number of cards from your field and/or GY into the Deck, except that Set card. You can only activate 1 "Doofenshmritz Evil Incorporated" per turn. While you have no cards in your Extra Deck, you do not have to discard to activate Aqua monster effects.

Since this archetype's traps are explicitly worded to check on resolution if they successfully discarded before granting their respective bonus(es), this field spell's effect to let you not discard for those wouldn't work as intended. Instead it should let you skip discarding for Aqua monster effects like the effect of Perry The Platypus, since those effects won't check if the discard was successful while resolving — they only ask that you discard as part of their initial activation requirement(s).

These changes are now live on Duelingbook. So much for the Scheme Counters, then...try Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Talking Tom next if you can!

You forgot to put the period at the end of the field spell's text.

Also, I think it's better for Backstory's effect to change non-DARK monsters face-down instead of non-Aqua monsters.

Also I find counter-placing to be unnecessary for this archetype and that the archetype does perfectly fine without that.
