Yautja Archetype (OCG: ギャラクシープレデター/갤럭시 프레데터)

Post #1 by parhelia_0000 » Thu Jan 27, 2022 2:38 am

And I am back with a brand-new archetype to introduce to you all - Yautja, otherwise known as Galaxy Predator in the OCG. This should come to no surprise that this archetype is inspired by the Predators franchise. Enjoy!

Lore: https://avp.fandom.com/wiki/Yautja_(Predator)

Yautja the Unmarked (ギャラクシープレデター・エクスプローラー/갤럭시 프레데터 익스플로러) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952378
If you control no monsters, or if you only control Beast-Warrior monsters, you can Normal Summon this card without Tributing. Cannot be used as Fusion, Synchro or Link Material, except for the Summon of a Beast-Warrior monster. If this card is Summoned: You can Set 1 "Yautja" Spell or Trap from your Deck to your field, or Special Summon up to 2 "Yautja" monsters from your hand or Deck, but their effects are negated, also they cannot attack, and for the rest of this turn, you cannot Summon monsters, except Beast-Warrior monsters. You can only use this effect of "Yautja the Unmarked" once per turn. This card must attack, if able. Once per turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle. A Beast-Warrior Xyz Monster that uses this card as Material gains the following effect:
● If it is Xyz Summoned: You can declare 1 Attribute; negate the effects of all monsters your opponent controls and in their GY with the declared Attribute while it is face-up on the field.

Yautja the Youngbrood (ギャラクシープレデター・ヤングブラッド/갤럭시 프레데터 영블러드) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952389
You can Special Summon this card from your hand by revealing 2 other "Yautja" cards with different names in your hand. Cannot be used as Fusion, Synchro or Link Material, except for the Summon of a Beast-Warrior monster. Once per turn: You can target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target. This card cannot attack directly the turn you activate this effect. This card must attack, if able. Once per turn, this card cannot be destroyed by card effects. A Beast-Warrior Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card as Material gains the following effect:
● If it is Xyz Summoned: You can declare 1 Monster Type; For the rest of this turn, monsters on the field with the declared Type cannot activate their effects.

Arrival of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・レベレーション/갤럭시 프레데터 시현) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952455
If you control no monsters: pay 3000 LP; Special Summon 1 "Yautja" monster from your Deck, and if you do, it is unaffected by the effects of monsters your opponent controls whose ATK is higher than the original ATK of the Summoned monster. You can Banish this card from your GY; reveal 3 "Yautja" cards with different names from your Deck, your opponent randomly chooses 1 for you to add to your hand, and you shuffle the rest back into your Deck. You can only use each effect of "Arrival of the Yautja" once per turn.

Bio-Mask of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・バイオー・マースク/갤럭시 프레데터 바이오 마스크) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952482
Equip only to a Beast-Warrior monster. When you activate this card: declare 1 card Type (Monster, Spell or Trap); the equipped monster is unaffected by effects of cards of the declared Type, also it can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each. Once per turn, if the equipped monster destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can destroy 1 Spell or Trap your opponent controls. You can discard this card and 1 "Yautja" card; add up to 2 "Yautja" cards from your Deck to your hand, except "Bio-Mask of the Yautja," also you cannot Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except Beast-Warrior monsters. You can Banish this card from your GY; Shuffle 3 "Yautja" cards with different names in your GY into your Deck, then draw 1 card. You can only use each effect of "Bio-Mask of the Yautja" once per turn.

Combi-Stick of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・コンビ・スティック/갤럭시 프레데터 콤비 스틱) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952464
Equip only to a Warrior or Beast-Warrior monster. The equipped monster can make up to 2 attacks during each Battle Phase, also if it destroys an opponent's monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the original ATK of the destroyed monster. While this card is equipped to a monster: You can send this card to the GY, then target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy it. This effect is a Quick Effect if the only face-up monsters you control are "Yautja" monsters. You can discard this card and 1 "Yautja" monster; draw 2 cards. During your Draw Phase, if this card is in your GY: You can target 1 "Yautja" monster you control; equip this card to that target instead of conducting your normal draw. You can only use each effect of "Combi-Stick of the Yautja" once per turn.

Gauntlet of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・リストバンド/갤럭시 프레데터 팔찌) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2953417
Once per turn, during each of your Standby Phases, you must pay 1000 LP, otherwise destroy this card. You can send 2 cards from the top of your Deck to the GY; gain 1500 LP. You can only use this effect of "Gauntlet of the Yautja" once per turn. Face-up Beast-Warrior monsters you control gain the following effects:
● Cannot be targeted for attacks or by your opponent's card effects.
● Once per turn, if an opponent's monster activates its effect or declares an attack (Quick Effect): You can Banish the top 5 cards of your Deck, face-down; negate the activation or attack, and if you do, Banish that monster, then this card gains 1000 ATK until the End Phase of this turn.
You can Banish this card and 1 "Yautja" monster from your GY, then target up to 2 monsters your opponent controls; Your opponent can negate this effect by discarding 2 cards from their hand, otherwise banish those targets.

Requiem of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・レクィエム/갤럭시 프레데터 레퀴엠) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952447
You can only activate 1 "Requiem of the Yautja" per turn. Activate 1 of the following effects:
● If you control a "Yautja" monster: Reveal any number of "Yautja" cards in your hand or Set in your Spell/Trap Card Zones, and if you do, banish the same number of cards your opponent controls face-down, then send the same number of cards from the top of your Deck to your GY.
● During damage calculation, if your "Yautja" monster battle an opponent's monster with a higher ATK: Send any number of cards from the top of your Deck to the GY (min. 1, max. 5); your monster gains ATK equal to that number of cards sent to the GY to activate this effect x 500, during that damage calculation only.
You can Banish this card and 1 "Yautja" card from your GY; add 1 "Yautja" monster from your Deck to your hand.

Scimitar of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・シミター/갤럭시 프레데터 시미터) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2953402
Once per turn, during each of your Standby Phases, you must pay 1000 LP, otherwise destroy this card. You can only control 1 "Scimitar of the Yautja." Face-up "Yautja" and Beast-Warrior monsters you control gain the following effects while this card is face-up on the field:
● At the start of the Damage Step, if this card attacks a non-Beast-Warrior monster: Destroy that monster.
● While you control another "Yautja" monster, you can Xyz Summon "Yautja" monsters from your Extra Deck using 1 less Xyz Material (min. 2).
You can Banish this card and 1 "Yautja" Spell or Trap from your GY; destroy up to 2 Spell or Trap cards your opponent controls.

Temple of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・ホーリー・シュライン/갤럭시 프레데터 성지) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952396
When this card is activated: You can add 1 Beast-Warrior monster from your Deck to your hand, but if you control no Beast-Warrior monsters, you can only add "Yautja" monsters with this effect. You cannot Summon monsters, except Beast-Warrior monsters. Each time a Beast-Warrior monster(s) is Summoned to your field, place 1 counter on this card. Beast-Warrior monsters you control gain 100 ATK per counter on this card. If a "Yautja" monster(s) you control would be destroyed or Banished, you can remove 1 counter from this card for each of those monsters instead. You can remove any number of counters from this card, then activate 1 of these effects. You can only use each of the following effects of "Temple of the Yautja" once per turn.
● 1: Face-up Beast-Warrior monsters you control will gain 500 ATK until the End Phase of the next turn.
● 2: Add 1 "Yautja" Spell or Trap from your Deck or GY to your hand.
● 3: Special Summon 1 "Yautja" monster from your GY.
● 4: Both players discard 1 card, then draw 1 card.

Equip only to a Beast-Warrior monster. The equipped monster gains 500 ATK, also if it attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage. You can discard this card and 1 "Yautja" card, then target up to 2 cards your opponent controls; destroy those targets. You can Banish this card from your GY; Set 1 "Yautja" Spell or Trap card from your Deck to your side of the field, except "Wristblade of the Yautja", also it can be activated this turn. You can only use each effect of "Wristblade of the Yautja" once per turn.

Despair of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・ネトガン/갤럭시 프레데터 네트건) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2953393
Target 1 monster your opponent controls; its effects are negated, also it cannot attack, change battle positions, be Tributed, or be used as material for the Summon of a monster from the Extra Deck. During the rest of this turn this card is activated, your opponent cannot Summon monsters, or activate effects of monsters, with the same name as the target. If your opponent controls no other monsters, monsters you control can attack your opponent directly. Cannot be targeted or destroyed by other card effects while you control a Beast-Warrior monster. During each of your Standby Phases, halve that monster's ATK, also if its ATK has been reduced below 1000 as a result, destroy that monster. When that monster leaves the field, destroy this card. While this card is in your GY, if you Special Summon a "Yautja" monster from your Extra Deck: You can Set this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only control 1 "Despair of the Yajuta."

Shuriken of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・修理剣/갤럭시 프레데터 수리검) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952488

While this card is in your GY, if you Special Summon a "Yautja" monster from your Extra Deck: You can Set this card, also it can be activated this turn, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use this effect of "Shuriken of the Yautja" once per turn.

Yautja the Battle Scar (ギャラクシープレデター・スカーフェイス/갤럭시 프레데터 스카페이스) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2952414
2 Beast-Warrior monsters, including a "Yautja" monster
Once per turn, if a "Yautja" monster you control battled this turn, you can also Xyz Summon "Yautja the Battle Scar" by using 1 Beast-Warrior monster you control as material. (Transfer its materials to this card, if any.) Cannot be targeted by your opponent's card effects, also this Xyz Summoned card cannot be used as Fusion, Synchro or Link Material, except for the Summon of a Beast-Warrior monster. This card must attack, if able. While your opponent controls no Beast-Warrior monsters, this card can attack directly. (Quick Effect) You can detach 1 material from this card; change all face-up monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position. If this card leaves the field: You can target up to 2 non-Xyz "Yautja" monsters in your GY; Special Summon those targets.

This card must attack, if able. While your opponent controls no Beast-Warrior monsters, both players can only activate effects of non-Beast-Warrior monsters once per turn. Monsters sent to the GY by this effect cannot activate their effects for the rest of this turn. If this card leaves the field: You can target up to 3 non-Xyz "Yautja" monsters in your GY; Special Summon those targets.

If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step. Gains the effects of "Yautja" Xyz Monsters that are attached to this card as material, also the original ATK and DEF of this card becomes the combined total ATK and DEF of "Yautja" monsters attached to this card as material. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card battled an opponent's monster and that monster was not destroyed by battle: You can take control of that monster until the End Phase of this turn. When this card leaves the field: destroy all cards your opponent controls, and if you do, Special Summon 2 "Yautja" monsters from your GY.

Let me know what you guys think. :)

And here's a new support card that I've recently made for Yautja's. Enjoy!

Eternity of the Yautja (ギャラクシープレデター・エターナル・バタル/갤럭시 프레데터 영원의 전투) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2954352
Every "Yautja" monster in your Monster Zone is unaffected by your opponent's card effects. If this face-up card leaves the field: Destroy all monsters you control. You cannot Summon monsters, except Beast-Warrior monsters. You can only control 1 "Eternity of the Yautja." You can only use the following effect of "Eternity of the Yautja" once per turn. You can activate 1 of these effects:
● Special Summon 1 "Yautja" monster that is banished or in your GY.
● Add 1 "Yautja" Spell or Trap from your Deck to your hand.
● During your opponent's Main Phase 1: Banish the top 5 cards of your Deck, face-down, then target 1 face-up "Yautja" monster you control; Change the battle positions of as many monsters your opponent controls as possible to Attack Position, and if you do, it is now the Battle Phase of this turn, also all monsters your opponent controls must attack that monster, if able.
While this card is in your GY, if you Special Summon a "Yautja" monster from your Extra Deck: You can Set this card, but banish it when it leaves the field.

Pure Yautja's Deck Profile (February 2022 TCG Format, usable in OCG as well)

Alright, so without further ado, here's the deck profile for pure Yautja's, formatted to the February 2022 TCG banlist that was introduced just recently. Enjoy!

Deck Link (Cards are public so if you wish to try this deck out for a spin, feel free!): https://www.duelingbook.com/deck?id=9983450

Image

MAIN DECK (42 cards)
Monsters (9)
3x Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
3x Yautja the Unmarked
3x Yautja the Youngbrood

Spells (25)
3x Arrival of the Yautja
2x Bio-Mask of the Yautja
1x Foolish Burial
3x Foolish Burial Goods
1x Gauntlet of the Yautja
1x Monster Reborn
3x Pot of Prosperity
2x Requiem of the Yautja
1x Scimitar of the Yautja
3x Temple of the Yautja
1x Terraforming
2x Trade-In
2x Wristblade of the Yautja

Traps (8)
2x Despair of the Yautja
3x Eternity of the Yautja
3x Shuriken of the Yautja

EXTRA DECK
2x Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder
1x Number F0: Utopic Future
1x Number F0: Utopic Draco Future
3x Yautja the Battle Scar
3x Yautja the Brood Elder
2x Yautja the Divine Leader
3x Yautja the Squadron Elite

SIDE DECK
3x Nibiru the Primal Being
3x Dark Ruler No More
3x Evenly Matched
3x Gozen Match
3x Rivalry of Warlords

DECK ANALYSIS: It should come to no surprise that this deck is a control variant in its pure form. The main goal of this deck is to go for one of the Yautja Xyz monsters (basically the Xyz monsters are considered more "proper" battle forms of Yautja Predators) and then sit on it with backrow to spare.

You always want to see either the field spell or Arrival of the Yautja. Either one will allow you to open up your board with a decent starting point. I tried to implement Combi-Stick into the deck, but more often than not I kept on running into brick hands with it. I decided to ditch Combi-Stick for the pure variant.

Pot of Prosperity is a personal tech of mine because I usually never go into more than one Xyz monsters unless I'm expecting to go into late game. If you're feeling lucky you can go with Pot of Extravagance instead; however, if you want to be on the safer side, go with the Prosperity.

Now you may be calling me crazy for teching Foolish Burial; however, it actually is a nice tech because with the introduction of Eternity of the Yautja to the archetype I now have a consistent way of bringing Yautja's back to the board.

So far, I haven't been able to successfully incorporate Tri-Brigade's into Yautja's due to the fact that the field spell, Eternity and Unmarked all lock you into Beast-Warriors. But if you're confident that you can make the hybrid deck that's stronger than the pure variant, feel free to give it a shot.

But the most important question of all is, does this deck MLG? Yes, yes it does. Here's the replay. Enjoy.

I see Christen, Rocket2, and KTeknis have a lot of Problems involving you. So yeah, I hope you know how to balance your cards by now...

(P.S. Why not make a 'What to Avoid in Customs" post showcasing flaws in Customs like "Using a Pre-existing card's artwork", "unreadable PSCT", "Making a card that is a way better version of a Pre-existing card", etc.)

Making such threads like that can only do much, and people who already make stupid custom cards aren't gonna care anyways. Unless the DB admin team step in and actually establish a system that detects and deletes these unbalanced, stupid custom cards, there's no way in hell that any of these How-To threads will hold any meaning.

And Yautja is a control archetype. I did my best to restrain myself from copy-pasting Xenomorph's or Arkraiders into this deck.

And here's another gameplay - Yautja VS Reginar https://www.duelingbook.com/replay?id=37528-35952071

This was more of an interactive one. A couple misplays as we both didn't notice that Bio-Mask allows my monster to bypass Judith's effect, but in the end, the luck of the draw was on my side.

From what I recall about him, Parhelia is (or was?) creating a card designed to be stronger than the meta, even the Tier 0 ones, so I doubt balance is the thing he seeks... Which I don't care anymore.
Now I was more care about that Parhelia's turns out wanted to see some people using his card (I think he's just targeting specific people), which kinda made me wondering how to design a card (and presenting it) that can attract people into using it? What I come up with currently is just 2 questions that might helps describe your custom archetype:
1. What can your Archetype do?
2. What sets it different from other similar TCG Archetype?
I have interest in badly designed custom cards.
You saw these cards as terrible, I saw them as ideas.

Try to think of this archetype as a control/beatdown hybrid. You know how the Yautja predators in the film are sneaky battle creatures that utilize various traps and weapons to "hunt their prey," yes? This archetype represents just that.

To put it simple, this deck is designed to sit on a strong Xyz turn 1 with backrow to support it. Even if the opponent Scythe's me, even if my opponent Skill Drains my monsters, my deck is designed to be playable under those conditions.

And in order to prevent this deck from being splashable into other archetypes, I did make sure to add restrictions, such as "You cannot Summon monsters, except Beast-Warrior monsters" and "Cannot be used as Fusion, Synchro or Link Material, except for the Summon of a Beast-Warrior monster."

What sets this deck apart? One of the continuous traps has a built-in Battle Mania effect, which is fitting considering that the Predators were always about battling their opponent. In addition to that, how many TCG archetypes do you see that has equip spells, continuous spells and trap cards incorporated together into an archetype? I'd imagine very few if none.

So lemme summarize this:
"A Hybrid Beatdown/Control Xyz Archetype that focused on getting some Xyz monster to the field and support it with various backrows."
Not bad for a description, I guess. A good description might be able to attract some player to try the archetype I hope.
Oh a little wondering, do you have an archetype with a common mechanic?
I have interest in badly designed custom cards.

I'd say the only TCG archetype I can think of that does something similar to Yautja's is tellarknight's, but it's more of a lock deck rather than a control beatdown.

Custom archetypes, no, this is my first control beatdown deck.

Another support card, this time it supports both Yautja and Xenomorph. Enjoy, and let me know what you guys think.

Destined Hunt (対峙する狩り/사냥당할 운명) https://www.duelingbook.com/card?id=2957928
(This card is always treated as a "Xenomorph" and "Yautja" card.)
You can only activate 1 "Destined Hunt" per turn. During the turn you activate this card, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Yautja" or "Xenomorph" monsters. If you control a face-up "Yautja" or "Xenomorph" monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck: Change the battle positions of as many monsters on the field to face-up Attack Position as possible, then apply one of the following effects, depending on whose turn it is.
● During your turn: Double the ATK of all "Yautja" and "Xenomorph" monsters you currently control, until the end of this turn. During the End Phase of this turn, Banish those monsters.
● During your opponent's turn: It is now the Battle Phase of this turn, also your opponent must target a face-up "Yautja" or "Xenomorph" monster you control with the highest ATK as an attack target, and all monsters your opponent controls must attack that target, if able.
During your turn, except the turn this card was sent to your GY: You can banish this card from your GY; add 1 "Yautja" or "Xenomorph" monster from your Deck to your hand.

Revised Pure Yautja Deck Profile (February 2022 TCG Format, OCG-compatible)

Okay, so after doing several deck tests, I've decided to update the deck profile to something that's much more refined and meta-worthy. Enjoy!

Deck Link (Cards are public so if you wish to try this deck out for a spin, feel free!): https://www.duelingbook.com/deck?id=9983450

Image

MAIN DECK (40 cards)
Monsters (9)
3x Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring
3x Yautja the Unmarked
3x Yautja the Youngbrood

Spells (22)
3x Arrival of the Yautja
3x Bio-Mask of the Yautja
1x Card Destruction
3x Foolish Burial Goods
1x Monster Reborn
3x Pot of Prosperity
2x Requiem of the Yautja
3x Temple of the Yautja
1x Terraforming
2x Wristblade of the Yautja

Traps (9)
2x Despair of the Yautja
1x Destined Hunt
3x Eternity of the Yautja
3x Shuriken of the Yautja

EXTRA DECK (15)
2x Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder
1x Number F0: Utopic Future
1x Number F0: Utopic Draco Future
3x Yautja the Battle Scar
3x Yautja the Brood Elder
2x Yautja the Divine Leader
3x Yautja the Squadron Elite

SIDE DECK (15)
3x Nibiru the Primal Being
3x Dark Ruler No More
3x Evenly Matched
3x Gozen Match
3x Rivalry of Warlords

DECK ANALYSIS: After careful consideration I've decided to ditch Gauntlet and Scimitar. Yes, they do help in certain situations; however, when you're running traps like Eternity of the Yautja and Destined Hunt, Gauntlet in particular will conflict, so I decided to cut it.

Foolish Burial and Trade-In saw very little (if any) use in my decks. I decided to cut them and replace them with more useful techs like Card Destruction and Destined Hunt. Card Destruction and Bio-Mask of the Yautja are both great for un-bricking hands should you draw into no starter cards. In this format especially, you do not want to brick if you're facing against top-tier decks like Swordsoul or Invoked Dogmatika Shaddoll, which are still a threat even with the new banlist, and in this situation for Yautja's, you do not want to discard your monsters considering the fact that Monster Reborn is still at 1.

Pot of Prosperity and Foolish Burial Goods are both extremely broken in Yautja's. They can easily be abused to dig through your deck into your starter cards. Consider the fact that you can't even summon AA-Zeus or Number F0 under the Temple of the Yautja or Eternity of the Yautja anyway, so Pot of Prosperity makes for an amazing plus given the fact that you run multiple copies of Yautja monsters in your Extra Deck.

Let me know what you guys think of this updated deck build. Do you guys feel that the pure variant is a pretty powerful deck on its own, or do you guys feel that there is still a way that Tri-Brigades can abuse Yautja's in a hybrid build?

will there be some balance changes, or will it stay as another semi-FTK deck?

This will depend on the likelihood that the custom format will get any better. Unfortunately, because of players like Ari Bellamy, Chaosprince and others who build OP decks while justifying their own concept of "balance," I have had to design this deck while taking their standards of balance into account.

I see.
Very sad :(

Well, the artworks are still very good. I really like them.
They are also kinda in touch with the effects and lore.
sad to see them go to waste in another OP deck :(

Yeah, trust me, if I could balance the deck, I would. Unfortunately, there's only so much you could do to try and convince others to balance their decks. It's come to a point where you have to build your decks with the high-tier meta in mind just so you can stand a chance against other custom archetype players. Welcome to DB customs, where everyone has their own concept of balance to the point where you have to build metagame archetypes or be prepared to get wrecked. I learned to get used to it.

There's always gonna be that next CrystalMusic, ChaosPrince, Aroma Girl, etc. who will always justify their OP custom cards in their own way, and so long as no action is taken to enforce the balance, we'll always have to deal with these types of people.

ARCHETYPE SCHEDULED FOR DELETION FROM DB DATABASE. This is as of means to boycott the Custom Card format's toxicity that's going on to this day.

Admins may now lock this thread, thank you.
