[FINISHED 22/22] Lucky Seven Archetype

Post #1 by darkfighter17 » Sun Jan 23, 2022 5:19 am

Introduction

The number Seven has always been associated with luck and mystery. This archtype however, has nothing to do with these things. Just like how a con-man knows that the game of poker is not luck, but simply probability, this archtype focuses on manipulation of what cards you draw and what cards are arranged in the deck.

Lucky Seven is based around monsters that activate when drawn from the deck. Each of the main deck monsters share this effect: "If this card is drawn, you can reveal this card: Special Summon it.". Each monster also has an effect that activates when summoned this way.

In addition, four of them share this effect "If this card is sent to the Graveyard; Take one "Lucky Seven" card from your Deck and place it on top of your deck." Together with its spell support, the archetype indirectly tutors any card you might need.

The deck has eight Link monsters, which are the toolbox you use for a scenario. The effects vary, from disruption, card protection, and card advantage. However, the link arrows of these monsters will limit what you can put out on board, so you must think carefully about what's best for the situation.

This is an old archetype I made years ago and I decided to upload it here for some feedback.

Overview

Code: Select all

"Lucky Seven" focuses on gaining advantage by drawing into your monsters to trigger effects. "Lucky Seven - Blackjack" is the archtype's version of A Hero Lives and is your most powerful starter card - searchable by the Field Spell, "Lucky Seven - Casino Royale". In almost every case, you'll use it to summon "Lucky Seven - Ace of Diamonds" and grab any combo piece you need from the Deck. From there you'll summon a second monster, usually Ace of Hearts or a monster that can be Normal Summoned (Spade, another Diamond) to go into your first Link Monster. Once these monsters hit the grave, you'll be able to set up your deck so they can be drawn later.

Ace of Hearts, Four of a Kind, Full House, and Flush are all extenders that are searchable. Royal Flush is also an extender that doubles as draw power.

Casino Royale is the most important card to have on field Turn 1. Not only does it tutor your extenders, but it also helps recycle grave resources, setup plays, and fix otherwise dead hands. In addition, it nets you a free draw when it hits the Grave in any way, helping further extend your plays or maintain advantage.

Your Link Monsters are quite powerful since they disrupt your opponent's plays. You can bounce threats with Queen of Hearts, prevent graveyard plays with Queen of Diamonds, and negate activations with Queen of Clubs, as well as negate field effects with King of Clubs. King of Hearts and King of Diamonds protect your cards if needed be. The Spade links generate powerful advantage when summoned. King gives you 2 draws for free, whereas Queen brings any Lucky Seven monster from Grave as well as replaces itself when it dies. However, these restricts your plays for the rest of the turn and have horrible link arrows.

All of the Link 2 monsters have an additional effect that allows you to send a Lucky Seven card from your hand or field to grave to draw a card when they die. However, this effect can only be used during the opponent's turn and it locks you out of using its other effect, encouraging you to think carefully about which effect you want to use. This will also encourage your opponent to try and bait out the effects of your Link Monsters.

In addition, it is quite difficult to have more than two of these Link Monsters on the field at any given time, unless you summon additional Link Monsters with good link arrows. Your Link Monsters also require you to have an additional monster in hand or field in order to use their effects, which can be an issue if you don't have the resources.

Four of a Kind and Royal Flush (and to a lesser extent, Flush) are important since they help trigger your monster effects on your turn. The strongest play is to stack a Spade and a Club, in order to put three more monsters on board and have a 2nd Link Monster.

Lucky Seven - Straight is very key to the strategy since it gives you a continuous source of draw power every turn. It's easily combo'd with Casino Royale to net you a Pot of Greed style draw. If you stacked cards like Joker or High Card, you'll also be able to summon them during your opponent's turn to disrupt their plays.

In a pinch, you have access to a battle-style hand trap, Card Counter. This will help you get over bigger monsters since the lower rating Links have only 2100 ATK. These can be activated straight from the hand to surprise your opponent, or can be searched via Diamond and Casino Royale to help run over a big threat.

Although the deck can play control style thru careful resource management, it can easily OTK due to the large number of extenders the deck has available. Joker and High Card each have big bodies of 2800 each and can be easily summoned thru King of Spades to easily put 8400 attack damage on board. This is but one of the ways the deck can swarm the field to close out a game.

Combos

Note that these combos are only meant to showcase the basic strategy of the deck and how it tends to operate. Each combo will establish a basic board for you to work off of.

Combo 1: Strong Open

Cards needed in Hand:

Blackjack
Four of a Kind / Upstart Goblin / Royal Flush (plus extra discard)
Straight

Steps:

1. Activate Blackjack to topdeck Ace of Diamonds and draw it.
2. Summon Diamond and use it to search Casino Royale
3. Activate Casino Royale to search Ace of Hearts
4. Summon Heart from the hand.
5. Use Diamond and Heart to summon any link 2 monster (Queen / King of Hearts / Diamonds, or another link if you prefer)
6. Activate the effect of Ace of Diamonds and Ace of Hearts to topdeck Ace of Clubs, then topdeck Ace of Spades.
7. Activate your draw card. Reveal the Straight in hand to draw.
8. Reveal Spade and summon it to draw 1 card.
9. Reveal Club to summon it and grab any Lucky Seven monster in Grave.
10. Use Spade, Club, and the 3rd Monster and summon any link 3 monster (King / Queen of Clubs, or another link if you prefer)
11. Activate the effect of Spade and Club to top deck Joker and High Card.
12. Use Casino Royale to topdeck Spade from grave.
13. Set Lucky Seven - Straight on your side of the field.

Ending board:

You will have two Link Monsters with disruptions of your choice. Casino Royale can also be activated either through the effect of your Link 2 Monster or with Straight in order to draw and summon Spade, Joker and High Card, creating an additional layer of disruption and field presence.
During the next turn, you can use the effect of "Four of a Kind" to top deck Club and Heart (in either order), followed by Diamond and Spade (in that exact order). You can then use Straight to summon both Spade and Diamond and continue to gain advantage.
This is the most preferred play to make on Turn 1, assuming you don't have any other extenders.

Combo 2: Standard Open

Cards needed in hand:

Blackjack
Straight

Steps:

1. Activate Blackjack to topdeck Ace of Diamonds and draw it.
2. Summon Diamond and use it to search Casino Royale
3. Activate Casino Royale to search Ace of Spades
4. Normal Summon Spade from the hand.
5. Use Diamond and Spade to summon any link 2 monster (Queen / King of Hearts / Diamonds, or another link if you prefer)
6. Activate the effect of Diamond and Spade to top deck Joker and High Card.
7. Use Casino Royale to topdeck Spade from your graveyard.
8. Set Lucky Seven - Straight on your side of the field.
Ending Board:

You will have one Link Monster with disruption of your choice. Casino Royale can also be activated either through the effect of your Link 2 Monster or with Straight in order to draw and summon Spade, Joker and High Card on the opponent's turn, creating an additional layer of disruption and field presence.
During the next turn, you can send Spade to graveyard in order to topdeck Diamond, and use Straight to summon Diamond and continue to maintain advantage.
This play is likely to happen when you are missing an extender like Ace of Hearts, Four of a Kind, or Full House.

Combo 3: So you got Ash Blossom'd ...

Cards needed in hand:

Flush (or Casino Royale to search)
Any Draw card (Four of a Kind, Royal Flush, Upstart Goblin, or Casino Royale to search for Four of a Kind)

Steps:

1. Activate Flush to topdeck Diamond
2. Use your draw card in order to reveal and summon Diamond
3. Use Diamond to search for Casino Royale. If you already activated Royale, skip step 4 and search for Ace of Hearts instead.
4. Activate Casino Royale and search for Ace of Hearts
5. Summon the Heart from your hand.
6. Summon your Link 2 monster.
7. Use the effects of Diamond and Heart to top deck either Joker or High Card, followed by Spade.
8. Use Casino Royale to topdeck Diamond from grave.
Ending board:

You will have one link monster with disruption of your choice. Casino Royale can also be activated with the effect of your Link 2 Monster in order to draw and summon Diamond, Spade, and the 3rd card you chose for disruption and establishing advantage.
This play is useful if you can't use Blackjack or if it gets negated, assuming you don't have any extenders in hand. This play is especially helpful since Diamond will search you either another Casino Royale or (if needed) Card Counter to protect your link monster from battle.
