Question about cards that copy effects

Post #1 by Mastery682 » Tue Jan 11, 2022 1:34 am

If a monster has a hard once per turn on their effect, and you have a monster whose effect becomes that of a targeted monster, does that mean that I can use the monster's effect an infinite number of times, because the monster that stole the effect doesn't share a name with the targeted monster?

For example: Magic Dude has a really cool effect, that says "You can only use this effect of 'Magic Dude' once per turn", but Copy Dude copies that effect, but because the effect says you can only use this effect of "Magic Dude" and not "Copy Dude", Copy Dude can use the effect infinitely. Is that how it works?

This is why we have "(until the End Phase,) this card's name becomes that monster's, and replace this effect with that monster's original effects."
It copies the name too, if it didn't it would be literally broken. Don't do that, HOPTs were created for a reason.
