Classifying a Deck

Post #1 by monstergelo » Sat Nov 25, 2017 9:28 am

Hi all!

There's a theory lying around(here) about a deck can be classified to several types namely:
  • Aggro
  • Control
  • Combo
  • Ramp
  • Midrange

Is this classifier relevant enough or do you have a better classifier suggestion?

There's lots of ways like by playstyle like you said, by summoning type, by time period, etc
But for your one I think you need to change 2 things:
- Add "alternative win" type like Exodia, Burn and Mill, they don't care about attacking
- And I think combo and ramp is the same thing

desires is an amazing card look at decks topping events and you'll see desires in them.

It's not bad at all refrain from giving horrid advice.

I get combo aggro and control but ramp and midrange are like what exactly?
this isn't MTG man

I would say Lock and anti-all .dek would take those spots in yugioh.

Bit late but I'd say ramp decks are something like Graydles which are bad early on but gain advantage over time with cards like Supply Squad and Impact. As for midrange, it sounds like Zodiac would fall into that category.

The entire existence of the "ramp" category is pointless in Yu-Gi-Oh. The term only exists in Magic because there is a finite resource used to play cards, i.e. mana, and Ramp decks are specifically defined as decks built around accelerating that resource. There is no equivalent resource in Yu-Gi-Oh, thus there are no "ramp" decks in Yu-Gi-Oh.
