Flunderbreeze ruling?

Post #1 by MakoSwordsman » Wed Sep 01, 2021 7:42 am

Card link is here: https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Flundere ... known_Wind

So flunderbreeze has already been activated and face up for several turns. I use flunderbreeze to tribute one of my monsters, and send a face down S/T my opponent controls as cost for the tribute summon of lets say "Blue-Eyes White Dragon". Can my opponent activate the quick play spell that was set, such as "Book of Eclipse" to send it to the graveyard so that I no longer have the material for my tribute as well as setting all my monsters?

From my understanding flunderbreeze is an "Ignition like" effect, and therefore does not start a chain since it isnt considered to be "activating a card" info on ignition like effects here: https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Ignition ... 1%20or%202.

So what would be the ruling here?

Flunderbreeze and the Uknown Wind doesn't activate when you want to Tribute Summon from its effect. It is not an Ignition Effect. It is a continuous effect. You can see this because it doesn't have a : or a ; in that particulate effect unlike Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen. So your opponent cannot respond to its Activation when you want to use its effect to Tribute Summon. Just like an opponent can't respond to a Kaiju that wants to tribute an opponent's card.

It's literally better continuous Stormforth, it does not start a Chain when you use its effect to tribute summon.
