Remove the "gender" selections.

Post #1 by Excellion » Tue May 31, 2022 5:30 pm

There is no reason to have a selection for gender, it doesnt affect the game in any way. DB isnt a dating site and clearly its causing issues, Either add more gender options, or remove them.

What does the gender selection actually add to the game? and removing it would only solve issues for people who dont idenify as male or female, Remove the chance of female players getting harassed or targeted, ect.

Yes there is, it hurts non binary people by exclusion, it makes people identifying as female a target for harrassment by creeps. I literally just said that.

Exactly so we dont need a gender selection, you want someone to know youre male or female put it in your description, otherwise leave it blank and people can call you "they/them" another reason we dont need a gender selectio

Also "it doesnt hurt anyone" there is a thread rn where a non binary pwrson is asking for representation, you dont think theyre hurt by you ignoring their existance?

Or you could just ignore it, leave it at blank and not care like 99% of the users, and put anything you want in your Bio description instead.

So ignore a problem, or fix the problem like 100% of resonable sensible people do, if like you said 99% of people ignore this setting then there is no reason to keep it, who is gonna miss it? If no one cares its there no one will care that its gone.

You guys are 0-4 for reasons to gkeep the gender selection option, if youre that against non binary, just say so, because there is no reason otherwise that makes removing it is a bad thing.

People do not care, that means they don't mind if the option is there or not, but since it is there already, why remove it? So if people want to use it, the option is there, if they don't care about it, they can just ignore it.

So now people do care, ao long as the options available remain binary... by that logic why change anything? Its already there, right? If people are going to ignore it anyway, then it doesnt matter if its removed, if people really want "female" on their profile, they can put it in their profile description, either make the gender selection inclusive to everyone or remove it, they removed group chat, no one seemed to care, why is this now an issue?

Removing it takes time and the staff have better things to do with their time at the moment so if they do end up removing it, it's gonna be a while since it's low priority.

Recommend keeping this discussion to the "don't id as male or female thread" though as there shouldn't be 2 different threads arguing the same thing.

They removed group chat feature, didnt seem to be an issue for anyone, and the time it would take to remove what? Maybe 1 graphic, a drop down and an title text and display functions on the persons profile? Thats like 5 minutes if the sites coded in html5.

Also, this is a different discussion, the previous is asking for an addition, again, would take like 2 minutes to add a line to a drop down menu, im advocating to just remove it entirely to prevent future issues like people posting to ask for "attack helicopter" as a gender in the drop down.

To prove its not a "time" issue here is a step by step guide for how to add and remove items from a list drop element on an html5 platform, it takes 10 minutes to create a complete list.... cant imagine its more than 5 to remove it.
https://blog.hubspot.com/website/html-dropdown
Youre telling me they cant spend like 10 minutes removing this?

This I'm not sure of, as we seem to have never had such a working feature to begin with.

Non binary people dont exist so it is again not hurting anybody. I have had my gender set as female and posted pictures of my boobs on duelingbook and got harassed twice in 4 years so thats a non issue we have rules against harassment for the rare cases of the harassment via ones gender. If anything the men get harassed more.

While I could go on a tirade about what existence means, really, this is about someone wanting to be referred to by specific word(s) and whether or not other people will do so
